On the weekend of April 5-7, 2019, members of the Texas Association of Blind Students, will join NFB-NEWSLINE(R) Texas, and our CAREER Mentoring Program to host our annual student summit. This event is intended for blind high school and college students, as well as for young professionals. The focus of the summit will be learning how to network.
Presenters will offer information about how to navigate any crowd at work, school, and in your community. We will host a "mocktail" hour, on the evening of April 5. No alcohol will be served, but those in attendance will get a chance to network with others as they might at a work or school function. This informal event will be the beginning of a weekend full of opportunities to learn new strategies for living the life you want as a blind student or professional.
The 2019 NFBTX Student Summit will take place in Austin, at the Holiday Inn Austin Midtown, located at 6000 Middle Fiskville Road. Room rates for the event are $104.00 per night, plus tax. The cost to register with the event is $60.00.
Refreshments at the "mocktail" hour, dinner on Friday evening, breakfast and lunch on Saturday, and breakfast on Sunday morning will be offered at no charge to those who are registered with the event. Dinner on Saturday evening will be on your own.
If you are a student or young professional whose registration fees will be paid by the Texas Workforce Commission, please remember to fill in the box that asks you to tell us if someone else is paying. Please share your counselor's name in that space. You should clarify that TWC will be paying by making the request to your counselor prior to registering for this event. If your counselor agrees to pay the $60.00 registration fee, tell them that they should submit a service authorization to us by sending it to firstname.lastname@example.org. They can use vendor #1-742056167-6 on the service authorization. If they have questions, they are welcome to call our main number for additional information. Or, they can send an email to the address above. Our number is 281-968-7733. Please, keep in mind that TWC will not do an after-the-fact service authorization. So, you should touch base with your counselor as soon as possible to arrange for them to pay.
Errors sometimes happen during the registration process. If that should happen to you, please do not register again. Instead, call our office for assistance. We are open from 9 AM to 5 PM weekdays, and you can reach us at 281-968-7733.
