Fort Worth Chapter

Fort Worth Chapter

The Fort Worth Chapter is a growing chapter with membership ranging from their twenties through seventies. The Fort Worth Chapter fosters a spirit of independence, encourages personal and professional growth to “Live the life you want” among its members and its community.  The chapter attends local health / resource fairs, events focused on serving B/VI kids, adults, and families, and various other events to distribute literature and provide information about blindness to its community.  Members participate in the North Texas White Cane Safety Day planning committee, White Cane Day activities, and the North Texas Vision Coalition. Members advocate for issues locally, statewide, and nationally, hosts events to showcase the NFB - Newsline service, provide blindness related skills workshops, and provide hands-on opportunities for its community to practice skills that will be applicable to volunteering and employment. In addition, the members reach out to other organizations to learn about their services while sharing NFB information to strengthen the chapter’s community and reach people who are blind in an initiative called ‘Journey through the Community”.  The chapter gives back to its membership and empowers them by providing scholarships for members to attend state and national conventions. The Fort Worth Chapter supports outreach programs within the community, including efforts to connect with local colleges, school districts, people who work with visually impaired children, parents of children who are blind, and other service provider and agencies while supporting NFB programs.
