NFB-BELL® Academy (Summer Program)
The Braille Enrichment for Literacy and Learning (BELL) Academy provides children ages four through twelve with a week of intense instruction in braille through fun, hands-on learning activities. The program targets blind and low-vision children who are not currently receiving adequate braille instruction in school or who could benefit from Braille enrichment over the summer.
Students participate in confidence-building activities with blind peers and are mentored by independent, professional blind adults. Most importantly, children experience the beauty of Braille firsthand through tactile crafts, games, and even field trips in the community led by blind mentors.
The National Federation of the Blind of Texas hosts multiple NFB BELL Academies during the summer months across the Lone Star State. For more information, please contact Emily Gibbs.
