We're seeking guide dog users to participate in a new testing program that will help improve access to ride hailing services. If you are a person who uses a service animal or frequently travel with someone who is, you can be a tester. All it takes is completing a short questionnaire after a ride. Even if you do not use a ride share service on a regular basis, your feedback is valuable.
The National Federation of the Blind is committed to ensuring equal access to ride hailing services for people who use service animals. In an effort to resolve allegations that drivers for these companies routinely discriminate against passengers with service animals, the Federation reached a landmark settlement agreement with Uber and Lyft.
Both companies now have to revise their policies and training practices to ensure that contractors and employees abide by laws that protect passengers with disabilities. Additionally, terms of the agreements require that the NFB conduct testing and gather data to assess whether access is improving.
To that end, the NFB launched a new testing program earlier this month to gather both positive and negative experiences of guide dog users who take rides through Uber and Lyft. For more information, call our hotline at (281) 968-7684 or e-mail Lara .
More details about our multi-state effort are available on our national web site.
