Part of our mission as the NFB of Texas is to support blind and low-vision Texans when they face hardships. To that end, we are seeking ways to roll up our sleeves and be of service to those in our community who need help.
You can help us do this in two ways:
1. Share your needs with us.
If you, or a blind person you know, has been impacted by this storm, we want to help. Call (281) 968-7733, e-mail our president, or send us a message on our Facebook page. You may also apply for assistance by using the link to our Hurricane Harvey Relief Request Form. Legally blind Texans and their immediate families are eligible to apply for assistance. We will begin rebuilding together.
2. Donate to our Harvey Relief Fund
We're accepting many types of donations, which we commit to only using for Hurricane Harvey relief efforts.
- Send gift cards to major retailers, because they are easier to share than supplies.
- As transportation is bound to be a challenge for blind and low-vision Texans, we are also accepting gift cards for Uber and Lyft.
- Make a financial contribution:
- Give online. (Just write “Harvey Relief Fund” in the note field.)
- Write a check to the National Federation of the Blind of Texas with “Harvey Relief Fund” in the memo line and send it to our office (which is back up and running) at 1600 E. Highway 6, Ste. 215, Alvin, TX 77511-2595.
Harvey may be the strongest storm any of us see in our lifetimes, but we are stronger. Thank you for standing with us, and for doing your part to be a light in a dark time.
